After the previous post about TIF files, now I would like to share some information on file extension EMP. Usually EMP files are associated with the online music service by eMusic.com. By purchasing the musics from eMusic.com, you’ll get yourself some emp files that will be converted into a normal MP3 that can be opened by any music player program. But of course there are more from these file extension EMP.

There’re emp files created by a design tool Pro/ENGINEER. They are data files and they won’t work if the associated emn files are missing. Of course they won’t do any harm to your computer and they cannot be opened by other applications.

The Medlin Accounting’s Payroll Software also uses these emp files to manage payroll and payroll taxes. They contain information and records on employees and like the other file extension EMP, these are spesific to the application mentioned before.

And the last, these EMP files are also used by EveMON. This Windows-only application uses emp files to store characters skill plans from the game Eve Online. Players can share their emp files with each other for various purposes. They can also export these files into XMLs or normal text files and then edit the contents. After that, they can import back the XMLs or text files into emp files again.
